Yellowstone National Park - Day 4
Early Morning Walk Through Yellowstone’s Upper Geyser Basin
May 5, 2025
Another early start had me out the door just as the sun began to rise over Yellowstone National Park. The air felt cooler than it had on previous mornings, and temperatures stayed low throughout the day that added a crispness to my walk.
Today, I ventured farther than I had on earlier walks through the Upper Geyser Basin, one of Yellowstone’s most iconic geothermal areas. The reward? A breathtaking view of the Morning Glory Pool, one of the park’s most colorful and famous hot spring pools. True to its name, it looked just like a blooming morning glory flower with vibrant blues and greens glowing in the cool morning light. It was, without a doubt, one of the most beautiful sights I’ve seen in the park.
Exploring Yellowstone’s Lakes, Waterfalls, and a Surprise Spring Snowfall
On our final full day in Yellowstone, we set out with a clear goal: to see as many of the park’s scenic lakes, rivers, and waterfalls as possible. Our route took us past a series of familiar spots, including a return to several of the waterfalls we had previously visited. The highlight of the afternoon was finally getting access to the top of the Lower Falls from a viewpoint that had been closed earlier in our trip.
As I began the descent toward the overlook at the top of the Lower Falls of the Yellowstone River, light snow started to fall and it didn’t let up. It snowed steadily for the rest of the afternoon, transforming the landscape into a quiet, white wonderland. The unexpected spring snowfall in Yellowstone added a nice touch to an already unforgettable day of exploration.
Exploring the Historic Old Faithful Inn
While staying at the Old Faithful Snow Lodge, I couldn’t miss the chance to visit its more famous neighbor, the Old Faithful Inn, one of the most iconic and historic lodges in Yellowstone National Park. I was curious to see if it truly had that classic old western lodge charm, and it absolutely delivered.
As we stepped inside the historic Old Faithful Inn, we were greeted by its grand rustic architecture and the warmth of the wood interior. To top it off, a man played a fiddle from the balcony, filling the lodge with the perfect soundtrack for stepping back in time. It was a uniquely Yellowstone moment that made this visit extra special, even though we weren’t staying there.
